IRELAND V INDIA
Hello again! This week we travelled to Bankura to finally start out building the school. We took a train to get to Bankura and then a bus to bring us to out to lodge/ barn. Unfortunately the girls got the lodge with hot water and clean facilities while the boys got to stay in the tiny building with two beds for five boys (note from Trish - the girls also have to sleep on the floor!) Obviously we ended up sleeping on the floor!
We went to visit our building site where we were treated to a big procession. We were warmly welcomed and the front row of seats even had their feet washed. The next day we started building (mostly bricklaying) as the foundations were already in place. However, as everyone tried their hardest on the first day, we were all wrecked for the second day with sore muscles and arms. Happily though, Mr. K told us we had a holiday next day, due to a strike being held to protest against a terrorist being killed by the police nearby.
Then later that day we played the international football match - Ireland V India! It was superb as we all came in shorts and runners while, the opposition had a full kit with proper jerseys and boots. We lost 3-2 in the end with a golden goal.
When we got back to our lodge we went to sleep thinking of the free day we would have tomorrow. However at 8am in the morning we were woken up by Mr. K telling us to get up and that the strike was cancelled. So today we got up to the building site. I’ve been bricklaying the whole day which is sore on your back. After I’ve written this blog I’m going swimming in a lake to wash myself under a waterfall!
