Tiger Prints

We went again to the edge of the world this afternoon. It is only ten kilometres from Jharkalli but very remote.

We were the first Europeans to visit the area and we were surrounded by people telling us stories of how loved ones of theirs had been devoured by tigers.
All had been men who were caught unawares while collecting timber or honey in the forest or fishing in boats or on the shore.

Each time the tiger ate everything except the head. One man told how be was with his father when he was killed. He was only 16 and a small fellow but had a spade with which he challenged the beast who eventually backed off and ran away without his meal.

The people showed us these dried footprints of a tiger who came last December which sent shivers down our spines!
