Two groups spent two hours visiting 4 families who live within a half kilometre of the school.
Even after four days of exposure to poverty this was the most shocking.
Three or four women living together with their children, their men either dead, deserted or living in Kolkata.
Their material poverty is extreme. Some walk half a mile to collect water from the well. They have little or no health care and most can neither read nor write.
Yet they are rich in culture and full of hospitality.
