Ed's Diary

Friday 2nd Feb

After finalizing the work on the the walls at the Aikatan Boys School.
A small group of 15 went to visit the nearby Sevanagar Balika Vidyalaya Girls School,
where we were invited to a presentation ceremony.
The principal and teachers organised a ceremony of traditional dance, song and poetry.

I enjoyed the dance and music aswell as the pleasant atmosphere in which we were
recieved. It was great to see how enthusiastic the children were and how they
respected their education. ocassionaly i take my education for granted but when i look at
the indian children who have to build their own school so they can have a proper
education unlike their parents, i see how grateful i am for it.

The principal presented Mr. Alexander with a memorial plaque
and Emmet represented our school by recieving craft gifts from the students.
Our school donated 30,000 rupees from the india fund to the school which enabled
them to build a extra storey onto their newly built school building.

before we left Mr. Alexander planted a ceremonial palm tree in the school yard to mark our visit.
Overall it was an enjoyable visit but i wasn't looking forward to the 2 hour bus journey
back home.
