Being A Girl

On first impressions, Calcutta was the scariest place I had ever been. Being a girl means that everyman is staring at you and this creates a pretty intimidating atmosphere. The first day was the worst, it was everything I had been told to expect and so much more! We went to the local market and I have never been so completely freaked out.
After that we went to visit some temples which were cool. We took a train, a boat and even jumped on a moving tram and all on the first day! The next day was mind-numbingly boring as we traveled in the school bus all day visiting schools built by previous years. One school had over a thousand girls in attendance. They all came out to meet us, it was amazing! We went to newmarket as well to buy salwars for the wedding in Deli.
Wednesday was the best day by far. We got to debate the Loreto Sealdah girls and have really interesting discussions with them. We toured the markets outside and the big highlight was spending the rest of the evening with the rainbow children. It was class! One girl wrote me a note telling me she loved me, another drew a henna pattern on my arm in biro, it was amazing!
