Macon's perspective 1

My first few days of India are probably the ones I’ll remember forever. Nothing could have prepared me for this. Upon leaving the airport you are bombarded by young beggars with a variety of deformities. Despite being warned about them, most of the girls break into tears as the tiny children stretch out their tattered little arms.
After seeing the rainbow children and their ever optimistic faces you gain the smallest glimpse of hope for India’s future. Instantly after seeing them you’ll realise that there’s almost nothing you can do to upset them, as they are so independent from materialistic items that giving them toys would be a sin.
Streets are the devils playground where “every step you take” can be an adrenalin rush; the taxis have games of chicken with articulated lorries and the rickshaws seem to be at the bottom of transport food chain and so are just bullied off the road by others. This is a once in a life time trip and the memories good or bad, all of mine have been life changing and I can only hope my next blog has as many passionate reflections as this one. - Macon January 31st 2007
